ok I tell lies

I don't know why I thought I would be a better blogger here then when I was home. But so sorry I haven't updated anything. But here is the short recap of my experiences it has been great. (real informative right) I have seen and do so much already but there is still so much to see. So for now you should read my friends blog to see what I have been up to, just replace her name for mine and you are all caught up. No really you will be, she is the pro bono photographer for our little group and takes amazing photos.

Here is her blog: http://lettersfromlauren.blogspot.com/

And then I will work on being better at blogging.

Concret Jungle Where Dreams Are Made

I'm here!!! I landed at 5:22 a.m. (that would be 3:22 a.m. in Orem time). I crashed at my very generous friend's apartment for a few hours and then decided to get out there and see NY. So I first took the subway into Time's Square because it is always good to go there if you are feeling like a tourist. But as I go to pull out my camera I realized I never checked the batteries and my camera is dead. Oh, well right? We have all seen pictures of Time's Square before.

Then once I stop at the visitor's center to get a map of the subway I figure I will try to go to Ladies Home Journal, but I didn't think to write down the address all I remembered that it was close to Grand Central, so stopped by there and then decided to stop by Bryant Park because it is the cool place to eat lunch. So after those great adventures it was only about 2:00.

I didn't know where to go next so headed back up to a safe place of Time's Square again, and watched a movie (I know it is ridiculous but it is my break from school and I didn't feel as alone in an empty theater.)

After seeing Jake Gyllenhaal in Source Code. I did what I do best and shopped around the stores. Then after all that excitement I went back to my friends apartment.

Tomorrow I will have a plan or places to see and I will have pictures too.

NYC Here I Come!

Internship: Check, Plane ticket: Check, Apartment: Check. After hours, days, and a month of searching. I have finally found a place to live in NYC!

Here are all the details about it: it's a two bedroom, (with 3 beds, so none of us have to sleep on the couch) and two bathroom (this is almost too great, because I hate sharing!), apartment on the fifth floor of this cute complex in Greenwich Village.

I love the ivy on the building!

Here is the shared bedroom, I am planning on taking the Master bedroom because I did all the work to find this wonderful place.

Bathroom

This is the corner kitchen (which might be small to some but fine with me because I don't cook very often) that is attached to the living room below.
Living room with a pull out couch bed.

Another great thing about this apartment is that is about two blocks away from Magnolia Bakery! So I plan on devouring their cupcakes just like Carrie and Miranda.

need to remove an advertisement?

In class we have been learning about basic HTML codes, which is what the internet is made of, these crazy typings of numbers and images put together to make pictures. It is a little mind boggling to think about. But anyways, with all of my knowledge of HTML I figured I could make my blog really great.

Which lead me to hours on the internet looking at other people's blogs and Web sites of free backgrounds for blogs and all that other blogging stuff. But after all those hours of putting new backgrounds on my blog, and trying to change the code so that it would look the way I wanted it to look. The only thing that I was able to change/fix was how to take out the annoying little advertisement that are in the top left hand corner of the blog, to say where you got the blog background from. To say the least, I was a little disappointed that my newly learned coding skills could only get me that far.

But keep checking back because I am not giving up on figuring out how to use HTLM to get me an amazing blog design. So just you wait.

day 3 of carrying the banner

Ok I am so over carrying the banner. It is not a fine life and I don't feel as free as a fish. I have lost my good attitude about it because I have realized that I am leaving my house at 6:45 a.m., to have the paper delivered by 7:30 which is ridiculous.

Today I didn't even get to school on time, because I was dealing with the mouse issue* and a guy was waiting by the empty NY Times holder, just waiting for the paper. Really? Really? He had to be waiting?

Well only 2 more days of this torture, but at least today I remembered scissors.

*mouse issue with have to be blogged about at another time when the issue isn't as traumatic as it is now.

carrying the banner

It's a fine life, carrying the banner through it all. I'm as free as fishes. I goes where I wishes. It's a fine life.

If you don't speak Newsies let me explain, (and then go get the movie, because you are missing out on Christian Bale singing and dancing, and does anything get better then that? I think not). I am on day 2 of delivering the New York Times, to the students of the Brimhall building. This means me getting up at the crack of dawn to deliver the headlines to the people (Because some people still read print?). I am doing it because it works as a fund raiser for SPJ (Society of Professional Journalist, yes I am a member and a professional one at that) and it sure beats washing dishes.

My newspapers are cheap, they are less then two for a penny, and Weasel, doesn't make me eat them after, I get to recycle them. Even with the papes being free I had 40 papes left over. I know I am no Jake Kelley yet but by the end of the week I am hoping. Maybe the headlines can help me, I just need a good assassination, an earthquake or a war, but hopefully not a crooked politician, because, stupid, that ain't news no more!

Reading... Burned

I am currently reading Burned, which is like #99 of the House of Night series, no I actually is only #6. But anyway it is a good series about teen vampires, but they are darker then Twilight vampires and in my opinion much cooler. This one has by far been my favorite book in the series. I like everyones POV and then I love Stevie Rae and the Raven Mockers relationship (I cannot get enough of it). Let me know if anyone else had read it.

This Is.. To New Beginnings

As the two of you, that read this blog might notice, I have changed the title of my blog to This Is... My So-Called Life, instead of This Is... The Life of a Gap Manager.

I have changed the title because my life has changed so I felt it only right to change my title. I decided to step down from being a manger from Gap to focus on school so that I can graduate in two years. Making my time at BYU total to seven years, and no I not graduating with a masters just a bachelors. Thus is the reason I am stepping down from Gap.

So this is to new beginnings of a lot of homework, papers, tests and only working 20 hours a week and taking a huge pay cut at work.

this is to... friends

I am so blessed that I have so many good friends. And most of those friends have come from working at the Gap. I have a wide age range of friends some that are older then my parents, some that could be my parents, and some that are big sister age, and then some that are around my age. And I love and am grateful for them all. I love that they are different ages and at different stages in life. I hope that everyone can have as many friends as me and I hope that I can continue to have so many amazing people in my life!

this is to change

it has been a weekend of change and sameness. In my life more things couldn't have been more different. I am going back to school full time, which means I am not going to be working full time. I don't have my great boss to support me in it but instead have a great old boss and friend that supports me in my decision. That is life but work has stayed the same. It was Gap's Friends and Family this weekend and people still came to buy a pocket tee and jeans for a discount. They have no idea the changes that are happening with the people that ring up there clothes, (which is a good thing, it means I am doing my job). I bought bagels in honor of Andrea who would always bring in bagels on Saturday morning of G&G. So it would feel the same to me but really me knowing there is a time of change coming and it might be big and I don't really know what will happen. I could go into this time scared, but I have decided that I will look towards the future with excitement of a new journey that lays ahead of me.

clean teeth on the go

I have been seeing this things at the store for a while now and couldn't resist trying them. They are called Wisp, by Colgate.

They are suppose to be like mini toothbrushes but without the toothpaste and the water, so when you brush there is this liquid filled ball that releases a nice minty freshness into your mouth. This looked amazing to me because I have been wanting something like this since the Brush-Ups are no longer available. (remember their great commercials it made me want to ride a subway at that moment while I was brushing my teeth with a Brush-Ups)

So I bought a little pack of the wintergreen wisps for only $1.99 at Target and loved them. They do exactly what they said they would they removed the food from my teeth and made my breath fresh without the use of water. I also love that they are small enough to carry in my purse and it is great when I eat out and have to be back to work and just need a cleaner mouth to talk to all my customers. Because who wants to buy jeans from a girl who's breath smells like garlic? (not me, that is for sure). But with the Wisps I will never have to have bad breath again!

shoes under... not what i saw on tv

At 2:50 am in the morning there is not much on to watch, but infomercials, which become mesmerizing. Once you watch one you can’t seem to stop watching. I get addicted to watching ladies with too much makeup and big hair trying to sell you stuff that you don’t need but some how you think you need after watching big haired lady talking about organizing your closet with this amazing product for only $9.99 for three months plus shipping and handing.

Well I bought one of those Seen-On-TV items that they sell at stores like the Seen-on-TV store and Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

(see it looks great! like it has sides that stand up and a bottom that doesn't flop)

I bought the Shoes Under item. It was going to be amazing because you could store 12 pairs of shoes in it and store it under your bed and it had a clear plastic top so you can see the shoes. So as I buy it at Bed, Beth and Beyond I open up the box which is small and realize this might not be as great as the lady with a lot of eyeliner said so. Because it has no bottom that keeps it flat and the clear plastic top is for the whole thing and not the just on one side.

(See not so great as it was in the picture or on TV)

So that got me thinking do I really like this? Is this worth the $9.99? Well I haven’t quite decided. I like that it holds all me shoes underneath my bed. But there is no support system for the bottom of it so if you take out a pair of shoes and then maybe another then try to push it back under your bed it goes all scrunchy and doesn’t move under. So I am clearly not sure if I want to keep it or return it. Because what else is out there that can hold all my shoes under my bed?

See It...The Young Victoria

It happens to be a Friday night which is Movie Night for me and one of my bestest friends, Stacey. Tonight was The Young Victoria. First of all I had to kind talk Stacey into this one because it wasn't playing at your usually movie theater and she had no idea what the movie was about I told her it is the one with Emily Blunt in it.

Well I just got back from it and we both LOVED it. It was amazing, after it was over I liked it so much I could have sat there and watched more for another three hours! It was great, amazing and every other synonym of those words. Emily Blunt was amazing but she usually always is, but her Prince, Rupert Friend was also amazing and I am now in love with him. Just look at that picture and tell me that you don't just fall in love with him too.

This movie was like Jane Austen but for royals, it was so great and I hope it wins at the Oscars, I will be hoping for it.

quick everyone get to shade

ok I never thought I would use those words right next to each other. But it seems that shade has a smart person working for their company. They are hosting local designs pieces in their store for two weeks then they will have another for another two weeks there is a totally of 10 designs that will be at Shade. And the pieces they had are pretty great, yesterday I bought two headbands they were $16 each that beats the $32 I have been spending at Nordstrom for a headband. So check it out because it won't last long!

I need, I want...

I have been searching for a black bag for some time now, (ever since I passed up the Banana perfect black bag) and I think I have finally found it!!! It is a J. Crew bag, but it is $298. This used to be no big deal, I found a bag I would buy it. But I have just recently moved out of a free of rent place to a place that I now have to pay rent, (which I hate by the way, paying rent is pointless, but it is beside the point) so now I have to think about it and, oh, it hurts me to say, maybe save up for it. But I am determined to have this bag so next time you see me look for the bag but it might take a couple of pay checks so keep looking.

Remember Me!

Today I reminded my family that I have a blog and that I post quite frequently. So hopefully now I might get some readers because family readers are better then no readers at all. You gotta love family!

(I learned I have no family photos with the whole family in it, sorry Taylor and Lindsay)
